Say what you will about fiction, but I'll choose memoirs over novels any day of the week. Even though I don't have cable, I have been religiously watching Daily Show clips for years now. So, the prospect of combining the those two things made my mouth water. Now having just finished it, it delivered pretty much everything I was expecting: basically, all of the "behind the scenes" stuff you don't see. I also found the treatment of Craig Killborn's years to be interesting. Surprisingly, there wasn't as much drama as I thought there would be, but honestly that's a good thing. What really comes through is how much like a family they were/are, and how devoted they've become to exposing b.s., no matter the source. It's truly amazing. As for the style of the book, it plays out like a talking-head documentary. A little bit different, but the narrative still unfolds coherently. So, if you're a fan of the show, getting this book is a no-brainer.

I love long oral history books on a variety subjects (and they are good value for the money, lots of content), and was a fan of the Daily Show (but my personal favorite was The Colbert Report). Lots of cool details and stories here for fans of the show in its best era. I'm only about 1/2 through it and it's good -- I must say a few things seem a bit dated already, particularly some of the stuff about the Bush era, in light of who the President is now and events in general since that time.They are open in this book that the crew and show are biased to the liberal side -- I do think Jon Stewart did a reasonably good job of jabbing both sides, obviously with more against the right. Loved when he went after the media talking heads and news biz as a whole, both sides. But I personally would prefer a little bit more balanced approach for a show like this, making fun of both sides and pointing out all their hypocrisy and bs, which they both have in spades.

I'm on CD # 6 of the 12 CD series (I think it's 12? It's a bunch!) that is funny, thoughtful, impartial, thorough story of how the Daily Show came to be, from start to current day, with many interviews and comments by all those involved with the show. I'm enjoying the heck out of it-- well researched and entertaining. The only thing I would have done differently is to record the actual voices of those who were interviewed (all the writers, Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, Steve Carell, etc) rather than get voice-over actors in there to simply voice their commentaries. The only real voice on the book (that I know for sure) was Jon Stewart, who did comment and narrate all his own pieces. I'm sure that hire the original people would have been a logisitical nightmare and would have cost a fortune, but it would have been wonderful.

Loved this book! I love that Jon Stewart not only provides a lot of information in the book but that it interviews everyone from current and previous correspondents to writers and producers of the show.The book delves pretty deep from the beginning of the show to the end with some juicy bits in between. I'm a huge fan of the show and am of this book!

One of my fav books ever. I was a huge fan of The Daily Show and Jon, so I found it all super entertaining and interesting. I couldn't believe how hard it was just to put together one show, I don't know how Jon did it for so long. It had to be draining, both mentally and physically. If your a fan of The Daily Show, you gotta read this. You won't regret the purchase, I promise. The format is an oral history format, so if thats not your thing, you musn't buy it.

If you're a fan of the Daily Show with Jon Stewart you'll love this book. It chronicles the evolution of the Daily Show from original host Craig Kilborn through Jon Stewart's last days on the show. It walk you through the behind the scenes struggles to change the direction of the show from "fake news" to actually a place where people got their news. If there are disputes between people, whether people working together on the show or guests - the author provides both viewpoints. Personally Jon Stewart was where I tuned in to get my take on politics and issues of the day and I can't tell you how much I miss him. Although he more than earned his "retirement". I would highly recommend this book to anyone who expressed an interest.

This was a fantastic format for chronicling one of the most important (THE most important ?) political satire shows of our time. Anyone paying attention knew Stewart was a mensch, but hearing from the whole cohort of creators of the Daily Show will show you just how brilliant and talented Stewart and his team is/was, and what a courageously decent guy it took at the helm to make this kind of TV and comedy history. This was an engaging, funny, fascinating page turner. Do yourself a favor and enjoy !

This is a superb book, almost a day-by-day account, with no straight text but set up in quotes by all involved. It is definitely an insiders view of how the show came to be during the Stewart years, good days and bad, good times and bad, great times and horrific.-If you are in the least interested in The Daily Show, how it was put together and how it aired, I recommend this book with the highest praise.

I received the hardcover books today (prime shipping). I also picked up the problem book. As a basis for comparison, I used the 1966 edition that I also own. I picked up the new set as FLP set are among some of my most favorite physics books and I wanted to own it in a relatively error free version. I read the FLP long ago and now wanted to read it again using the new edition.Here is my assessment of the quality of printing of the new Millennium edition putting is side by side with the 1966 edition.The binding is quite nice and the books are good looking. The pages are not glossy at all but the quality of paper is not great. The print however is not good at all. The letters are 'thin' and rickety and harder to read compared to the original red edition that has nice thick bold black letters printed. They are readable if direct light is shining on them, however, they do cause eye strain and require effort to read. All FLPs (old and new editions) have a lot of room on the right margin and this is nothing new. However, the left margin for the Millennium edition is too close to the spine making it awkward to read. The pictures are however, nicely done and so are the math, the formulas, and the equations. In short, the printing of the Millennium edition does not do justice to the excellent content. My advice for People who are contemplating purchasing the new millennium edition is to skip it and try to acquire one of the older versions in good condition and deal with the errata online. I have not decided yet whether to keep mine or send it back. I love FLP but the printing quality of the Millennium edition does leave a bad taste in mouth. I completed my last Physics class in 1964, and I still go back to these lectures from time to time simply because they're a joy to read.OK, I'll admit I spent 35 years developing system software and I have a life long love of math and science, but I think these lectures are accessible to anyone who wants to actually understand what physics is all about. Dr. Feynman is able to present the concepts in a way that gets past the "here's the formula, memorize it" approach that many introductory presentations have been reduced to. If you persist, you will be rewarded with an understanding of how all those odd sounding bits fit together and at least some idea of how it all works.Taking on these three volumes is a daunting task, but if you truly want to grasp this material, you won't find a shorter or easier path to getting there. You can read all kinds of popularizations relating to the voodoo of quantum mechanics, the time twisting of relativity, and the unfathomability of the smallest and the largest scales of the universe, but if you want to glimpse the reality behind the magic you need to recognize that a lot of very, very smart people have spent the past few hundred years sorting it out. The fact that all this can be made comprehensible to us mere mortals at all is a major accomplishment.

Of course the substantive content is beyond reproach, but it remains a challenging read, regardless of one's educational background.However, if you are reading the Feynman Lectures with Kindle for the iPad, be aware you will be disappointed in the formatting -- when inline mathematical expressions are rendered, these formulas are not properly displayed. Speaking with the editor of the Feynman Lectures, he informs me that Amazon has not updated the Kindle software for the iPad to support the newer mobi standard (or Amazon delivers the old .mobi version to iPads instead of the newer .mobi standard?). He informs me that publishers generally are complaining to Amazon about this problem for some time.

In fact, some Lectures (chapters) point to previous Lectures "for review" - helpful if you want to start from the middle.Though pre-exposure to- (or familiarity with- ) Calculus (particularly integral), Vector analysis, Probability, and other mathematical disciplines, operations/transformations/functions/series (Lorentz, Fourier, Number Theories, etc.) may help "feel out" the proofs more intuitively, each is presented with its corresponding Physical principle, as the need arises.In fact, this reviewer finds the coverage of mathematics (which contains many proofs) to be as lucid and well-reasoned as the Physics content!For putting together a working knowledge of Physics, in the pursuit of other interests, this reviewer continues to be excited by the lessons in these books.No doubt they will be admired by many other audiences, too.Then of course, no thing is for everyone. It gets deep quickly, and may be more thorough than some folks need or want. It's an overview in some sense, but the methodology is intense and takes a LOT OF MATH. Grade 7 Up—Angela Cardenas's parents have had enough of her irresponsible and difficult behavior and, as a last resort, they send the teen to the Hidden Oak School for Girls, a boarding school in rural Colorado. There the girls are divided into two streams, those who can be rehabilitated—the gold thread, and those who can't—the purple thread. Gold thread girls get schooling and etiquette class, whereas purple thread girls are imprisoned underground. They brutally self-govern, are subjected to mistreatment, and resort to violence to survive. Instead of allowing herself to be convinced that she deserves the punishment she receives, Angela decides to find a way to close the school permanently. A romance with the son of a teacher and the discovery of mysterious deaths from when Hidden Oak was a boys' prep school add suspense; however, the plot becomes too muddled, with some holes, and the tension comes too late. Angela's character is complex and full of contradictions, but all of the adult characters are either vicious or clueless. The extended detail used to establish conditions at Hidden Oak is disproportionate to the quick resolution. The struggle and eventual triumph of the bad girls over the evil teachers makes for an intriguing conflict that many teens will appreciate; however, some may find the easy ending a disappointment. “What the hell kind of school has a blindfold as standard issue?“ Angela Cardenas discovers that blindfolds are not the only odd things about Hidden Oak boarding school. Supposedly a last-stop chance for rehabilitating “dangerous” girls, the school has an agenda that is not necessarily what it advertises. After having their possessions and clothing taken from them and uniforms issued, the freshmen spend the first month isolated from the rest of campus. As the month draws to a close, girls start to disappear one by one. Those who are redeemable are sorted into the gold thread; the others, Angela later learns, are sorted into the purple thread and are living a “Lord of the Flies” existence with little adult intervention. In an effort to save her friends, Angela decides to be really bad in hopes of getting moved to purple thread. Teens might behave dangerously themselves to get their hands on this page-turner with its commentary on education.
