Alasdair Allan is a Scientist, Author, Hacker and Tinkerer, and co-founder of a startup working on fixing the Internet of Things. As a Physics PhD, with a great interest in human physiology, I have read, or attempted to read a great number of books, from all the main authors on the subject. While there are many excellent books to consider, none, in my opinion come close to this book. Clear but without being simplistic, always to the point and with a great writing style, it never gets boring or convoluted, delivering the maximal amount of information per page. The great illustrations help cement the knowledge, but it is the writing that is engaging. I will go as far as saying that this book reads almost like a best selling novel, making it hard to put down as one moves from one concept to the next. One suggestion to make this the perfect book is to include a chapter on the immune system in the next edition. Thanks to the authors for writing such a great book on such a fascinating subject.

Explains the topics well but lacks many review questions

Excellent structure, illustrations, and clarity. I have always loved these reviews and after 15 years of medical practice still return to these texts for reference. Love it.

My opinion is that my Lange's Big Picture textbook for physiology is written better with more concise information and better feedback drawings. The illustrations in this textbook are better than many, but I expect an illustrated review book to clarify things quickly and cement my learning. Otherwise, I'd muddle through the extensive Guyton & Hall my course recommends.

Jason has over a decade of experience in digital forensic investigations, secure software development, and information security architecture. He currently manages a team of forensic investigators and data breach analysts for The Bank of Nova Scotia, commonly known as Scotiabank, Canada’s third largest and most international bank.

Throughout his career, Jason has performed hundreds of digital forensic investigations involving Enterprise servers, network logs, smart phones, and database systems. Complimentary to his technical experiences, he has also developed and maintained processes and procedures, managed large information security budgets, and governed the negotiation of third-party contracts.

In addition to his professional career, Jason serves as a contributing author and content moderator for DarkReading, is a subject matter expert for (ISC)2 professional exam development, and volunteers as an advocate for CyberBullying prevention and CyberSecurity awareness. He holds several Information Security and Digital Forensic certifications including: Certified Information Systems Security Professional - Information Systems Security Architecture Professional (CISSP-ISSAP), Certified Cyber Forensics Professional (CCFP), Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP), Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP), and EnCase Certified Examiner (EnCE).
